From the Track to the Street

On the surface, a race car and a patrol vehicle couldn’t be more different. One chases lap times. The other chases suspects. But beneath the paint and lights, both live in the same world—where strength, repeatability, and durability aren’t optional.

For law enforcement fleets, one of the most persistent and costly durability issues is damage to side perimeter lighting on Police Interceptor Utility vehicles. These lights are critical for visibility and scene safety, yet they are routinely crushed during maintenance and roadside service simply because there is no safe place to lift the vehicle without contacting them.

That problem caught the attention of Kenny Brown Performance, a company with decades of experience designing components that must survive real-world abuse in motorsports. In racing, parts are engineered to handle repeated stress without failure — and, just as importantly, to be serviced quickly and consistently.

Applying that same mindset to police fleets led to the development of LightGuard™ Jacking Rails for Police Interceptor Utility vehicles. Rather than treating damaged lighting as unavoidable, LightGuard™ was designed specifically to shield side perimeter lights while providing a dedicated structural rail for lifting the vehicle.

With LightGuard™ installed, technicians can safely jack the vehicle anywhere along the rail, eliminating guesswork, reducing the risk of crushed lighting, and speeding up routine service. The added benefit is a stronger, more stable lifting surface that improves overall serviceability without requiring drilling or welding.

As law enforcement vehicles continue to add advanced lighting and equipment, solutions that protect those investments while simplifying maintenance are becoming increasingly important. Sometimes, the most effective answers come from industries that have already learned the cost of failure.

While the initial focus has been on protecting side perimeter lighting on Police Interceptor Utility vehicles, the Jacking Rail platform is designed with broader fleet applicability in mind. The system is currently available for Police Interceptor Utility Explorers and Police Edition Mustangs, with additional pursuit and special-service vehicle applications in development. The goal is a scalable solution that supports the serviceability needs of most modern law enforcement pursuit vehicles, regardless of platform.

LightGuard™ Jacking Rails are engineered with fleet maintenance realities in mind. Installation is fully bolt-on, requires no drilling or welding, and can typically be completed in under an hour using standard shop tools. Clear, step-by-step instructions guide technicians through proper placement, fastening sequence, and torque specifications to ensure repeatable, correct installation across the fleet.

Once installed, LightGuard™ becomes an intuitive part of the service process—providing a clearly defined jacking surface that removes uncertainty and helps prevent costly damage during routine maintenance.
